T-1/T-3 Leased Lines

T1 or Trunk Level 1, is a digital transmission link with a total signaling speed of 1.544 Mbps. Since the development of T1 in 1957 by AT&T's Bell Labs, it has become the building block of dedicated voice and data service in North America. T1, also called DS1, is part of a progression of digital transmission pipes - a hierarchy known generically as DS, or Digital Signal Level.

A T3 line (also called DS-3) is an ultra high-speed connection capable of transmitting data at rates up to 45 Mbps. A T3 line is is fast enough to transmit full-motion, real-time video, and very large databases over a busy network. A T3 line is typically installed as a major networking artery for large corporations and universities with high-volume network traffic. A T3 line is comprised of 28 T1 lines, each operating at total signaling rate of 1.544 Mbps.
